Acadiana represented at the 2010 Festival du Cannes

Lafayette, LA— The Lafayette Entertainment Initiative has joined forces with several other Acadiana entities to promote the region to the producers, directors and other film executives that will be in attendance at the 2010 Festival du Cannes this May in Cannes, France.

Acadiana has participated in the Festival in previous years, but this is the region’s largest showing to date. Acadiana will have a pavilion in the Pantiero of the International Village— a space usually reserved only for entire countries.

The delegation will host several events in the pavilion during the Festival to tout the area’s culture, hospitality, food and flourishing film industry. In addition, three informal incentives discussions will inform attendees about the money-saving opportunities available for those who choose to film in Louisiana.

Local businesses have stepped up to make this year’s presence even stronger. Abita has donated beverages for all events at the Pavilion. One lucky independent film maker will be the recipient of a trip to Mardi Gras courtesy of Associated Travel and The Carriage House, both located in Lafayette, LA. Finally, Vivian Alexander, maker of fine silver products, has created one of their signature egg-shaped purses that will be presented to the mayor of Le Cannet, France, Lafayette’s sister city.

Officials from the region hope that the stepped-up presence at the Festival du Cannes and continued relationship with the City of Le Cannet will expand the film industry in Louisiana and especially Acadiana.
